WHO CARES ABOUT CREATION CARE?

An Empirical Survey of Protestant Perspectives in Singapore

LED BY CREATION CARE SG

SUPPORTED BY THE SINGAPORE CENTRE FOR GLOBAL MISSIONS

Why are we doing this?

The environmental crisis has garnered increasing attention in recent years as the negative effects of climate change, biodiversity loss and environmental degradation become increasingly inescapable. Across the global church, the uptake and implementation of creation care vary widely due to a confluence of factors such as doctrine, history, culture, and politics. Yet, studies of individual perceptions of creation care at the local level are scarce and confined to Western societies in North America and Europe.

In 2021, preliminary focus group interview consultations were conducted with church leaders from 28 churches across nine different denominations in Singapore to clarify their understanding of creation care, and gauge their openness to creation care initiatives. This study builds on those findings by conducting the first comparative quantitative analysis of the importance of creation care among Christians in Singapore.

The survey focuses on Christian attitudes and actions with regard to creation care in their lives, the church, and the world, as well as the extent to which these attitudes are shaped by religious beliefs and practices.
